The thing I love and hate about Youtube are the viewers comments. Online videos are much more interactive than TV so if you have a question, observation or are know your aviation stuff please write.  If you want to comment on my appearance or be rude about someone else opinion...keep it to yourself please.

Please regard this short video as a launching platform for ideas about the Max 8.  I certainly don't have the answers to why 2 aircraft crashed.  The investigation will hopefully clear up what really happened.  

I tried to make a film that a non aviation engineer will understand. I hope you found it useful.

Any pilot can answer this. And no air craft can fly when its weight envelope is out of the flight envelop. The pilots could not fly the aircraft and the computer could not fly the aircraft , the aircraft was dynamic unstable. WHOO to the pilot that neglects the weight and balance calculations .  Boeing knew the aircraft is sensitive to load configurations and slapped on MCAS to help third tear operators because it fostered the idea that the New 737 Max was a ' World Beater.'  Conclusion ; Over sold and Under Developed.

All 737s have stall warning systems, what made the Max8 different was that Boeing bodged a software patch on to compensate for poor airframe design that put in WAY more down elevator trim than originally specified.
Just to avoid FAA and airline costs to get a new type-rating on the new plane.

The MCAS fault resulted in all four hands straining to pull back the sticks while figuring out what the problem was. Then every time they solved it 10 seconds later it cut back in.

Boeings errors were to
a) Rely on a single, error prone sensor,
b) Allow it to operate on takeoff and landing,
c) To ignore the ground proximity and speed sensors,
d) Not provide a decent cutout as the trim had to be 'unwound' before cutting the system off,
e) To allow the MCAS to re-engage every 10 seconds for ever
f) To hide the feature and not identify it it clearly
g) To not ground the craft after the first crash as the 2nd was entirely avoidable
h) To be far too violent and extreme in it's 'correction'.

IIRC They even charged extra for a 2nd sensor and a warning light that showed if they disagreed.

The FAAs errors were to
a) Allow Boeing to self certify.

This meant that even if both pilots had 100,000 hours of 737 experience and they'd even studied the blue-prints the new Max-8's fatal feature would still have caught them unawares.
I also think the number of 737s that have ever stalled on takeoff is zero, making the deadly MCAS system even more ironic.

The corruption and greed that caused this is epic.

Just imagine you're an ancient old Rock & Roller playing your Fender Strat as always and suddenly it is replaced by a electronic Synthesizer guitar and your once sweet music now sounds like the slicing and dicing room at the slaughterhouse. This is about how the old 737 drivers must have felt when the new Boeing Microsoft style pilot took control of the plane it was certain was entering a stall. Any of us who've updated our computer automatically by Microsoft only to discover how many things no longer function, like printers, scanners, video games etc. Surprise ! Surprise ! said Gomer Pyle.

I just Love how it only takes a body count of a few hundred to trigger the grounding of a plane otherwise approved by the FAA. The book " Flying Blind, Flying Safe" is old now but it would make us all grasp how the collusion between the FAA, the Airlines and the Aircraft Manufacturers cause many deaths among air passengers. So selling the new version of the Boeing 737 Max 8 required Boeing to make cheap the transition of pilots from the ancient old 737's to pilots approved to fly the new gee whiz electronic gizmo controlled version of a once reliable jet. But don't worry it can't take more than a a few hundred more dead to finally get to the fix for this problem.

Auto trim,,trimmed it nose full down at 1,000 ft. the pilot freaked out. Probably took 30 seconds to hit the ground nose first...Faulty trim sensor and lack of training . The pilot had the trim shut off switches right in front of him where they are on all Boeing planes..Painful to think about what those poor ppl went through ..

there wasnt automaticaly reduce the movements airplane around its centre of the mass.The computer passed the very big signal to the control surfacies,but that have to be trimered by the way. Pilots have to cut.off the computer in this ch.The next- STOP to use the autopilot during the take off,and when the aircraft is incomming to the airport area and pilot have to be ready for the landing without automatical operations

I go back to the *fact* that they found the Jack-screw from the elevator on the tail of the aircraft appeared to be faulty..

Ultimately this key mechanical part is crucial to controlling the AOA and if it fails, you are not likely to successfully fix the problem.

Software is one thing, but if mechanical controls such as the jackscrew fail, the software cannot understand and it likely gets stuck in a cycle where it continues to keep trying to work the same mechanical control apparatus until it does so much damage that other problems develop quite rapidly.

There aren’t many fail-safes in controlling the elevator.

The official reports will emerge and clear up the fog.

I believe one of the other differences between the older 737 and the Max 8 is that the skin of the Max 8 is constructed of composite carbon-fiber instead of aviation-grade aluminum.

The truth about the first officer’s paultry 200 hours of flight time could also factor greatly in this.

Boeing has been the most successful and safety-conscious manufacturer of aircraft in history.

I cannot accept that they haven’t provided pilots with everything they would need to fly the aircraft safely.

Bottom line? One of three explanations: 1- Pilot error. 2- mechanical failure, or 3- Terrorism.

Is it the software or a mechanical issue that wouldn’t let the pilots fly he plane in manual I know Boeing said they failed to train in how to override the software but I don’t know it seems like they are leaving something out

News services report the F/O had only a couple hundred hours of flight time. It takes two highly experienced pilots to fly a 737. In the US, 200 hours is barely enough for an instrument rating; an ATP requires at least 1,500, and most have vastly more.

MCAS is designed to try to prevent an aircraft stall. But what happens after the aircraft has stalled and the MCAS is still engaged and attempting to control the aircraft? As a comparison imagine you are driving into your garage in your car and the cruise control is on. But you have it disengaged as you are breaking into the garage and then suddenly it decides to accelerate your car to its last cruise setting. Your car does the unexpected and your time to react to this situation is measured in micro seconds before your car goes through the back wall of your garage.
You have one chance in thousands to do the right thing in this split second to avoid disaster. How fast can your mind comprehend what is happening and how fast can you react to do the exact correct thing needed to stop this disaster. When a plane is at a low altitude and it stalls this is exactly the same situation. Everything has to be done correctly in a split second to recover without a crash. Anything unexpected at this critical moment can throw off a pilots attempt to correct the plane just like the car accelerating through the back wall of the garage.
