I finally succumbed to my daughters wish that I take her to see Mary Poppins. I tried to delay going to the point see might forget the movie. But to no avail. I feared that seeing another “contemporary” re-do of a popular classical would be as disappointing as the few I have seen previously. None of the re-makes had the talent nor acting that could top the classic.
I was surprised while seeing Mary Poppins, that the talent and acting were rather good. However, I was surprised to note that Disney had taken the advantage of a child’s movie to push a political message. Victorian England was as Victorian, if not more so, than the U.S. the roles black actors played in the contemporary movie were good. However, black people during the Victorian era were not in positions shown in the contemporary movie, such as : upper-level bank personnel, high-level bank secretaries, and so on. They would in reality have been kitchen helpers in the family house, etc. the final scenes of the movie show a black man and white woman in a fun park ride. This would have been rare in any public event, excluding some events at the Thames dock areas.

So, I thought the movie was good. I also saw that Disney continues to wow audiences with the world of make believe.
The fact that they brought back the traditional 2D animation style for this is just nostalgic and wonderful!
