The first step in an engine build is the teardown. Let's see what we have to work with on our mission to make 1000HP.

The Papadakis Racing team began drifting in 2004 and is the most winning team in Formula Drift history, earning the 2015 title with driver Fredric Aasbo, as well as backto back championship titles with driver Tanner Foust in 2007 and 2008. The Rockstar Energy Drink / Nexen Tire Toyota Corolla Hatchback is the latest competition build from the Hawthorne, California, based team.

Team owner Stephan Papadakis is a legend of sport compact racing who began building his reputation in the 1990s with the first front-wheel drive, tube-chassis drag car in the U.S. The team earned multiple records and championships in the discipline, turning in elapsed times and trap speeds previously thought unattainable in front-drive drag cars. Papadakis' successes in front-wheel drive were matched by his efforts in rear-wheel drive when he campaigned a Honda Civic that became just the fifth car to join the NHRA's Sport Compact 200 MPH club

Wow this thing is space ship complex, I admire all the engineering that goes into this.
Definitely seems to a novice like these cars are not built to be low maintenance reliable vehicles , they seem to be complex exotic beasts.
Personally I will stick with a drive system involving 2 batteries no transmission and a electric motor thank you.
But i enjoy watching all this Rube Goldberg hi tech professional engineering squeezing the last speck of torque out .
Yes a lot of mechanical systems have been consolidated, but it seems to have come at the cost of massive complexities added to maintenance , manufacturing and the ecu/software (everything is thrown on top of the ecu which is not necessarily bad but definitely more complex to trouble shoot).
I understand this vehicle represents a pinnacle achievement of and industry , and it is cool and amazing! But i hope this is not the direction of cars for the masses.
Thank you!

Satisfying to watch! Thanks
There is nothing about this Supra to get excited about its just another BMW. This is Toyota's flagship car! Why did they not build it themselves!!! they have the money!!

.....but no stock bottom end? I thought thats why he was doing this? So it can be compared to the 2jz to see if one was weaker or stronger than the other...

Drive by wire is junk stop trying to tell me otherwise

Ey wallah!
Yeah that crankshaft tool for turning it is a stupid BMW invention. I had the same struggle.
I go buy BMW Z4

It's all German engineering
Very complex, thanks for the educational video! Question....Is this the same engine in the new 2020 BMW M340i?

The whole Supra car is actually built in Austria in a factory own by BMW.
But I am glad the Japanese had a say on improving reliability of this engine.
your japanese legend based on a BMW build in Austria.... the fanboys cry... for all the JDM boys...u are realy so naive to belive only JDM engine could take 1000+ hp https://up-tube.com/upvideo/sSC-6OJjvqZ https://up-tube.com/upvideo/WOxS2VK3e_b&g=495f (this Golf Mk II runs a stock DSG transmission only new programming uploaded on the controlling unit... https://up-tube.com/upvideo/13Qssf_cFdj https://up-tube.com/upvideo/V1ZMfD2Px7t https://up-tube.com/upvideo/2YC-90gxxlD
Decline To state.
love the popping noise when you remove the coils, lol.
this guy is next level. i'd lose track of all the parts and order they were taken apart

Nice video. I really enjoyed seeing the tear down. I've always liked having the canister type oil filter on my car. First, it's so easy to get to (front and center on an E46) and second for the reason you stated. When I learned my trade as a pilot, I used to poke my nose into the engineering shops and the aviation guys working on piston powered aircraft always actually cut the filters open to inspect them to see if an engine is making metal. It's a good feature. Just looking at the dimensions of the timing and oil pump chains I'm already doing my first oil and filter change in my head. CLEAN oil and regular inspection of plastic parts will be the order of the day me thinks.
Timing chain on the back of the engine. Jesus Christ imagine changing that in a service. Plastic fucking intake just like my Leon, they're nothing but trouble. This engine is gonna suck so hard.

To be completely honest, Im not real comfortable with so much reliance on the ECU. I like building engines. Always have but I tune my motors on the stand. No computers. Having a computer running everything is not only what I would call a massive cheat but also VERY expensive and difficult to repair. For the record, If thats what you like then have at it. Im not trying to put anyone down for enjoying and driving these cars and others like them but please dont lecture me on your masterful tuning skills. Im sure you can take a pile of parts and assemble an engine but the ECU is doing all the tuning, adjusting and monitoring. Just my humble opinion.

Nice BMW engine

They won’t let him race!! 2020 Supra B58 Engine Teardown 2 months ago   12:56

The cherry on top to our annual Cootamundra trip is going to the Sydney dragway for a nice laid back test and tune. While it is laid back, there’s always some crazy Aussie builds there that we LOVE to see! Oh and of course this video ends with a skid!
