Christmas Growing Up in Korea and America What I Wear to Work in Korea: 1 day ago   12:16

Merry Christmas!! My boyfriend and I sat down to decorate some cookies and talk about what Christmas was like growing up in our respective home countries, being South Korea and the United States of America. Our experiences are definitely more similar than they are different!

I would like to briefly note that while Christmas is originally a Christian holiday, it is celebrated in many different ways by many different people all over the world. There is no "right" way to do Christmas - your personal experience is yours, and you own that! Everything said here should not be taken as fact, but just as our own very personal experiences and opinions~

My mom was dead-set on keeping Santa alive for me for as long as possible. One day, I was 12 and I shoved my mom into her bedroom - mind you, I had been asking for weeks and I already knew the answer - but hearing my mom say, "No, your father and I (read: my mom) buy you guys gifts." Ugh it broke my heart 😂

The one present I really really really wanted that I got was a tamagotchi. I played it the day I got it until the buttons got wore down and my thumbs were sore. I also got a bike another year. I hadn't specifically wanted a bike, but I was SUPER happy to have one. What was really funny this year, we celebrated Christmas early with my family because I thought I would work on the 25th. Then got surprised with a day off, and no plans, so we tried to do a cute Christmassy date, and everything was closed! Even the movie theatre that said it was open. D:

Hey! We miss you over on Patreon. ;) Merry Christmas! I hope you and Andy enjoyed your time together. Did you have to work (or desk warm) on Christmas day, or did you get the day off?

What I Wear to Work in Korea: Christmas Growing Up in Korea and America 1 day ago   10:03

As an English teacher here in Korea, just how conservative do I need to dress...? And will anyone ever be punished for the sneakers and jeans?!

Hello everyone lol today I show you some basic examples of everyday looks I sport to work. My campus is very casual, and this may be because we're not a fully fledged public school OR hagwon, but who knows. As long as I can wear my t-shirts and sneakers, I am most certainly not complaining.

BUT every school is different - while this is what I can wear, some schools are definitely more conservative. As mentioned, a friend of mine has a strictly enforced dress code that she needs to follow.

As with any culture, dress etiquette is subject to change from company to company. Even when I was interning, standards varied from ad agency to ad agency.

If you are coming to teach in Korea, always (for so many different reasons) get the contact info for the teacher who you are replacing, and ask honestly what the office dress code is like before you go out and assume you need to buy a whole new wardrobe!! I have several things that I bought just for this job, never to be worn.

I'm the world's most awkward model, but if you want more style or clothing videos, let me know!!!

~~

For those who are new, I am American, and my boyfriend Andy is Korean. We met in 2016 while I was studying abroad in Seoul at Ewha Womans University, then embarked on a 2 year long distance relationship journey! We were reunited permanently in August 2018, and officially moved in together February 2019.

We are here to humbly share our lives with others - we hope you enjoy the journey 💕
