The Decline of Redbox...What Happened? PetSmart vs. Petco 7 months ago   13:16

Company Man
There's a great story behind Redbox. They've become somewhat of a household name and are now the #1 source of DVD and Blu-Ray rentals. Yet, over the last few years they've experienced a noticeable decline. This video takes a look at their rise and possible fall while attempting to provide reasoning behind it.

Dude there is still a "Family Video" right down the street from my house - not only that but there is a "Red Box" outside of my local gas station..... I personally find it all weird because you can just buy a DVD for the price of renting it...... And I have no idea why the Family Video survived - it is 2020...... Netflix anyone? the internet anyone? I mean WTF?!?!
Dean Winchester
Lol why buy Redbox when I can get all my favorite movies AND tv shows from MediaBox for free!

I miss hastings block busters i liked going inside seeing the movies taking my time not outside looking over ur shoulder seeing a line build up with inpatient ppl sucks and the selection sucks just saying.

Why is hurting them now is that people no longer have dvd players. I’d still use them but I’m not buying a dvd player just to use them so I’ll roll with streaming even though its a tad spendier

I live in a medium sized town in Montana and Redbox is doing really well here. Internet in rural areas and the mountains is incredibly spotting, often making streaming impossible, so by putting their machines by grocery stores, they found a market to tap into. People who live in the countryside or just don't have good internet grab a movie after shopping and bring it back later. You know how Blockbuster has hung around in Alaska because the internet there is so garbage that renting is the better option? Same thing applies to Redbox in Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, and parts of Washington (and fragments of the Dakotas). It's not a huge market, but until high speed internet becomes more accessible in rural areas, they'll be able to keep generating some profit via this. I guess the real question is, is this enough to keep the company afloat? Time will tell.

The price is now %1.80 lol

I hate having to go to different streaming services to find the movie I want. I love going to the redbox website and checking which kiosk has the movie I want to watch.
Jonathan Constant
yeah we definitely use redbox a ton, but we're just poor. We rarely ever go to the movies and never stream or anything like that. Most of our movie intake comes from the library.

I think redbox will at least linger for a LONG time, so many rural area have AWFUL, horribly expensive internet that streaming movies is practically impossible. I live in a larger metropolitan area, and less than an hour away the BEST internet option is broadband, and a HD movie wouldn’t play without extreme buffering.

I mean I’m happy with redbox, I got modern warfare 2019 for 30 dollars because they were selling all there games near me, so I picked it up
hans merker
I'm surprised Redbox sales are slowing down. I see them in a lot of locations where I live. Also, I'm surprised that the original idea was thought up in the 1980's.
Rogal Dorn
Could you talk about family videos
Michael Lam
Redbox declined because of movie streaming services like Netflix and Disney plus.
Meep Changeling
I would 100% buy a 80 dollar box to hook into my TV if it meant I could rent movies for a buck each via streeming, but ONLY if it included the sum total of all films.
Michael Hamilton
They should do a 1.00 a month sub and a 1.00 per movie STREAM rental, 1.50 for newer released movies... it can be competitive but it's still not a landslide
