Everyone is moving there to take Instagram pics. No thanks.

The politicians want to turn all of California into slab city!
flanker22
its awesome that the politicians get to use "homelessness" as a platform when they're the ones that caused the mess.

Born and Raised. 30 years in OC and SD. totally not worth it. since 2010 it's changed for the worse in so many ways. Southern Californians live in a bubble. Especially OC like Irvine and the lame garbage people there. The US is so big and there are many many better places to live. And places like Texas have friendly people, not cut throat Asians like OC

If people couldn't afford them they wouldn't be buying them. Clearly they can and do.

Two things here, building more housing does absolutely nothing for existing homeowners, it makes their quality of life worse, period, so of course they're going to push back against housing. And yes net migration might be seeing people leave the state the fact housing is getting worse is showing that birth rates are keeping the state increasing in population, so yeah net migration out of the state is actually a good thing, we already have the most people, we don't need any more.

Lastly, thank god for Prop 13, if it wasn't for Prop 13 I'd be paying an estimate of about $30,000 in property taxes due to the higher rate that it brought down, as well as the increase in value. $30k just to live in a house that already has been paid off, geeze. As it stands on average the property tax rate in the state is somewhere in the middle of states (California doesn't have to be the most expensive in everything does it?) however due to the elevated cost of housing the per capita property taxes are more expensive that just about everywhere else.... as well as power, water, gas, sewage, automobiles, groceries, etc... doesn't matter if it's made locally, we get the "California's can afford to pay more" mentality from businesses.

It's always amusing listening to the southern/midwest California haters. Yet their conservative heroes all live here or own property and have business here. I see them all the time enjoying life here. lol It's all about the money folks.

Sold my house in San Jose for triple. Became an instant millionaire. Wish I had bought more property in the mid 90s.

You know when you watch a video and doubt all the stats that are represented? 50% of the people agree to 25% of that assumption. right?

If you are a liberal, and you live in California.

You.. are the reason the state is going into the shiter financially and housing prices are too high.
Dave Brewer
Home Prices are Skyrocketing across the Country simply because more people can afford to buy them .

Moved out of there two years ago I miss it but no way I would go back unless on vacation.
Corey Chambers
This real estate news is outdated. Home prices are no longer soaring.

Your swipe at building codes in the guise of energy code issues is deplorable. You want homes and apartments that will collapse during the next earthquake? You also don't like energy codes that help restrict the incredible energy we put into heating and cooling our homes? Zoning is and was an excellent target, but don't simply list 5 things to get 5 things when action on one of them will lead to deaths.
soran27
TLDR: because they are in California USA.
James Caravayo
This is because all the good jobs are in California. Where else in America can someone with a G.E.D. make $75 an hour?
Sinbreaker
This is what happens when you have rich people moving into an area, and more importantly foreign people buying up all the houses.

Supply and demand. Thank you wallstreet journal.

Go east young man. The West will kill itself, at least in the next generation.
