This is really misleading! I live in California, and have been watching the market diligently for the last few years, and I see the OPPOSITE. The ONLY place where home prices can possibly be termed "soaring", is where mainly Chinese migrants with lots of money are buying them up without batting an eye (for some reason). Most California natives cannot TOUCH these homes!

Once interest rates return to a more historically normal rate, this whole thing will come crashing down. The average family in San Diego makes $63k/year, yet the average house is over $600k

I moved here for a job. Had no idea about California or the homelessness issue. Once I got here and saw everything, I changed. I'm planning on working here a short time before moving to a low cost place. California is beautiful and gorgeous place but seeing the price and how its so easy for anyone to fall into hard times, I don't want to feel like I'm always in fear of losing everything. I want to get settled and have a place a family, I don't always want to be terrified of being a paycheck away from losing my home.

I don't think China owns anything. I think some Potiticans slicked China out of their money.

Hahahahah when liberals get what they want and cant take it... YOU VOTED for big Govt...

In the US we are forced to compete with the world for housing. Housing is not for citizens, it is for anyone. The richest oligarchs of China all have homes here.

Nah, we don't have any more water. If you want a huge development in Lancaster, you have to find the water for the development, and no, that does not mean well water. 50% population growth. Zero water infrastructure growth. Growth stops.
Sheryl Chapman
You can work in California, but you can’t live there!

Dont come here it's horrible. Earth quakes constantly half the state burns in the summer and water levels are rising by 5 feet a year . Trust me you do not want to move here
Officer Orange cheetolini
Give it back to the native people you greedy blue eyed devil

Stay there and suffer like the rest. Enjoy your nice weather when you get stuck in horrible traffic for hours on end. No thank you.

Born and raised in California but I can’t wait to leave. Just waiting for the wife to finish her school in about two years time and you maniacs can keep this god forsaken state. The politics are nasty, traffic is nasty, crime is through the roof, and I’m not willing to deal with it.

Why don't you also report that the average size of a home has tripled since 1950?

I lived in San Francisco. Every uber rich person who lived on a giant hunk of land with a mansion on it was an environmentalist. Not because they really care about that stuff, but it is a way to keep your property values high by not permitting anymore development nearby what those rich bastards have already developed. Now that they got theirs, let's stop anyone else from having something here.

I know California house is expensive and cost of living but Seattle houses cost as much if not more! You guys have many things to do there for fun even sand beaches! We have rain all year round and no beaches! Sales tax is over 10 percent and average homes are 450k for 3 bedroom. Consider yourself lucky
Cole Horton
Blame the Democrat lead government over there.
can tho
But Bernie Sanders promised everyone free college and housing and $1,000/months if we vote for him...

Sorry but quality and craftsmanship is sub-standard compared to 40 years ago!! My house that was built in 1970s is a lot stronger and sturdier and better quality than my house that I bought brand new in 2003!! The new house all have crooked window frames...and paper thin walls!!
The Observer
When California runs out of water, the homes will be worthless.

It’s sad to think I will probably have to move out of my native land :(
