June 7 -- Plastics are everywhere in our lives, but those bottles, utensils, and electronics can take hundreds of years to decompose. Since the material is too useful to abandon, we're faced with two problems: how can we develop environmentally friendly products, and how do we clean up the plastics we've already discarded? We travel to a materials lab in Minnesota and a recycling plant in California to find the answers in this episode of Unsolvable.

20% effort gets 80% of the results. The U.S does extremely well at not putting trash in the ocean. We NEED to stop wasting money here and fix it where the problem is Asia and Africa.

All plastic should go into roads that's better than dumping at sea.

Remember when there was no such thing as blister packs, clam shells, plastic water bottles?

I am all in with creating a more biodegradable product however the problem we humans are is 8.5 billion of us and only going up. We need to stop creating more of us!

Develop a bug that eats plastics, produces fuel oil as waste. We then burn the fuel oil in our cars, trains, airplanes, ships, and rockets.

People like this help to restore my faith in humanity! I am into recycling hardcore, I even make sure my plastic is clean before I sort it into bins.

At least one company is making roof and floor tiles from waste plastic. Wake up world and start making house wall panels, car bodies, boats, etc from waste plastic.

Plastic makes a better binder for road gravel than tar all the plastic that is too dirty to remake into other things can just be used for roads that go ten years without potholes or ruts and you can just use old plastic roads when making new roads or repairing them.

Big Oil dislikes this video.... I thought Ford already made plant based foams for car seats? Also paintballs use vegetable based oils for the outer shell of the ball.

Hmm.. this must be a USproblem. We have been recycling plastics for maybe at least 20 years?! For the drinking containers made of glass, plastic and aluminium we have a system that pays us 10-40cents per bottle. Why dont US have this? Well i guess ( really hope) some states have this..

CarbonLite: Inside the World's Largest Inside the Lab That Could Solve 11 months ago   06:31

CarbonLite is the world's largest "bottle-to-bottle" plastic recycling plant in Riverside, Calif.

"SoCal Connected" takes a look inside the state-of-the-art facility where billions of plastic bottles are churned on an annual basis. The process involves transforming old plastic bottles into PET pellets and flakes in order to produce new plastic bottles.

The bottles are required to go through metal detectors, a special "prewash" phase, and a label-removing facility before they can become shiny, brand new pellets.

Even though your plastic water bottle might not weigh as much, a square bale of plastic bottles can weigh more than 1,300 pounds, as Derrick Shore reveals in this segment of "SoCal Connected."
