Trump doesn't want compromise. The US is pursuing this from a point of relative strength and will not stop. I remember when people threatened to sell off US treasuries in response, only for the market to buy anything at a lower rate(2.3% over thirty years). China is racking up massive debts with a deficit between 5-11% of GDP(when shadow, provincial and SOE's are taken into account). It's taken the US almost four decades to reach the debt levels they have, the Chinese will blow straight past that in a few years time. Trump knows all this, he understands how supply chain economics work (hello indonesia, viet nam, malaysia, thailand, cambodia, myanmar, laos, philippines, bangladesh, india, mexico and sri lanka) and you're a fool if you don't see the larger issues coming down the pipe if this continues for the manufacturing sector in China. Millions and millions could be made redundant. This is all a race against the clock.

Here is the reality ! In 3-6 months, prices will increase...by 25%-30%........due to tariff increase..
At Walmart, a $10.00 shirt will be $13.00
At BestBuy, a $200.00 tv. will be $260.00
At Sears, a $1000.00 ref will be $1300.00
This is plainly called business ...........on top, add increase CA sales tax..........
We pay........not China...

China once again shows their low self esteem.. Lets be real, the ball is in their court. Trump isn’t asking them to back over backwards

Totally waste of time pretending negotiate with Trump. He quits any treaty deals any time. In the end American consumers pay for tariffs

TRUMP GOING TO “MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN” !

will this cause the average american to be fatter or thinner?

In other words US consumers will pay 25% more for products they buy everyday. China doesn't pay a dime. I consider this as a special 25% tax on top of Federal, State and City income taxes and sales tax.

Tariffs on China by the developer/owner of Trump International Hotel, Las Vegas which was built/furnished with of over 80% of materials from CHINA. WHY?

Trump can't rub their nose in embarrassment and expect them to bow in agreement. Would you?
Gryphon S.
Also, it’s probably best in the long term if these tariffs trigger a recession because that’s the only thing that’s going to get Trump out of office. We don’t have enough good people in this country to vote him out on a moral basis. It Hass to be on an economic basis. I thought we were better than this but apparently not.
Gryphon S.
I hope they hammer Trump country again.

Tariffs will stimulate US manufacturing growth and create jobs for me and you! What...do you think that we should allow China to monopolize all mining and Manufacturing...and, worldwide trade by proxy...? gmafb

This is not only about trade war between US and China. It's about getting a fair trade policy with China. China is being unfair to not only US but many other countries including UK, Germany, Japan, S.Korea, ASEAN and more. China has been forcing foreign companies to enter joint ventures with Chinese companies, forcing technology transfers, forcing companies to adopt government censorship measures, espionage on foreign technology, banning foreigner from certain business and imposing high tariffs on foreign goods. Meanwhile chinese companies take advantage on other countries with no restrictions and tariffs like China does. Many countries are fed up with China being unfair in free trade agreement for so many years and Trump is the only president who has the courage to speak up against this unfair policy. And this is what the media don't report because they only criticise everything Donald Trump did.

P.S.: I'm not an American & sorry for my poor English, I'm from ASEAN region.

Hopefully China will close trading with US to start the ball rolling for other nations to follow and have US isolated. Just pray for this direction to come to pass.

China complaining about wanting a fair trade deal is like a bank robber complaining about one of the bags of stolen money not being full.

I have only two words for what President Trump is doing: "About Time!"

Any Republican who is against Tariffs but its OK for China to have them against the U.S. does not understand basic economics. We have stood by and watched theft of our products, technology and in some cases entire industries under the illusion of "free trade."

There was NOTHING "free" about that trade. It cost the U.S. Trillions of Dollars and millions of jobs.

I want President Trump to bring China to its knees. I will settle for a FAIR TRADE DEAL
Boom Boom You CCP
CCP crooks playing waiting game, end CCP by 2020 in between get the crooks to pay up 500 BILLION
My 2nd amendment is a right not a need
Once it costs the US companies more in tariffs than they save in labor by having it made in china, they'll start having it made in the US once again with US workers. Trump just recently said to the corporations, if you don't like the tariffs, have your things made in America. TRUMP 2020, baby, we're doing it again.
My 2nd amendment is a right not a need
China threatens retaliation on what? They buy practically nothing from us. A tariff on nothing is nothing.

Just to add some salt to US wound.China trade surplusto US is a major plus to US economy.First US couldn't manufacture consumer goods anymore. It has shifted manufacturing to financial sector in 1970''s.Where are the general manufacturing managers, engineers ,technicians, manufacturing facilities ? Have u heard of robots who can work 24/7? US consumers not only get cheap consumer products from China, but were helping their own US companies as well because these exports to US were mostly US products made in China.Secondly. after China got billion of dollars ( Trump like to say that), they will reinvest the dollars into US economy , therefore boosting its capital a/c.Much of the foreign reserves would also used to buy US treasury bonds which US need to generate funds for its nation use. Why? Because US dollars is a hard currency .Did US lose by having trade deficit with China? Not a single politician tell this to Americans.
